Loch Doon Memorial Woodland

Further progress has been made at the Memorial Woodland in the last few weeks. New mounds have been dug, allowing for more planting opportunities. Additionally, all the trees that perished during the summer months have been replaced, ensuring the developing woodland's beauty. Furthermore, there are new memorials in place, adding a sense of reverence and remembrance to the serene surroundings. The ongoing efforts to enhance the Memorial Woodland not only honour those who have passed, but also create a peaceful and tranquil space for visitors to reflect and find solace. 19/12/23

Activity at Loch Doon Castle

Nearly 2 years after the closure by Historic Environment Scotland (HES), two men scaling the Castle walls were seen this Thursday, September 28 . Since they were wearing high-vis jackets rather than armour presumably they weren’t storming the Castle. Probably they were assessing the walls for the safety of the stonework.

Access to the Castle has been restricted by Historic Environment Scotland (HES) since 2021 to ensure public safety against the risk of potentially unstable masonry. It was just one of over 200 historic property closures over the country to allow HES access to survey them for possible damage to the fabric of the buildings by climate change and irresponsible visitors.
